World as a momentum for human awakening

We have such a rich academic society, highly educated experts and scientist able to decode entire life and its functioning. In spite of it many secrets are not yet discovered, still what is known is mind blowing to a normal educated person like me.
Lot of knowledge has been verified which was handed down to modern man from ancient civilizations. Many things have been proven valid even up till today, findings as in Astronomy, Physics, Medical sciences, Biology etc.
We know what we need to do and we know what we shall better avoid to do.
If I look around and I look around for almost the past 40 years I see not highly educated people, I see a world full of ignorance and irresponsibility towards the planet we live on and its inhabitants.
It seems to me that no one really cares. No one stands up to stop the mess.
If we open our mouth and ask the above questions, we are addressed as fools, pessimist or what so ever discriminating terms available. With open eyes and the sense of basic 1 + 1 = 2 calculation there are no questions to human irresponsibility.
Why does our wonderful species act as if all are dumb, blind and deaf? We all sit in one boat the boat of earth. What will happen if earth can not handle us any longer, as it seems already happening? Who cares? Better not to think about it! Leave it!
Where is my drink? Okay! Now I am fine again. Forget the world. Man it’s not worth it.
Or - is there anybody who thinks man is worth a save, clean, healthy mother earth,………. to live on? I feel so stupid.
